We returned from Sapelo Island Sunday evening and brought lots of stories with us about the lessons we learned, the people we met, and the things we did. Unfortunately, about 6 of us brought back illness; I'm fairly certain that I have bronchitis. About 96 hours of non-stop work, play, and sunshine will do that to you, especially given the close quarters of our campgrounds and temperatures that soared into the high 90's everyday, accompanied by relentless humidity and carnivorous bugs. Dehydration was impossible to avoid. Sleep was unheard of. Despite those obstacles, I have zero regrets from the trip and would still be on Sapelo had they not dragged me off in the early hours of Sunday morning.Thank you for all of your inquiries regarding our Sapelo trip. I am so very excited to share everything with you, but I must ask for your patience because I cannot continue to write without coughing and constant shivers, both of which make it very difficult to keep my fingers on home row.
But I have so much to share. There are so many stories to tell about the elders and how the kids coped with their very first trip to a place that doesn't have a quick-e-mart, how they woke at 5 a.m and walked 2 miles to the beach to catch their dinner, how they survived on grits and apples instead of potato chips and candy, and how they realized that showering 3 times a day is sort of ridiculous. Please, please check back in a few days. I'll explain everything.
With a deep appreciation for you all and a strong desire to feel healthy again,
yours truly,
Jason
